Whatsapp announced this feature ahead of European data privacy regulations how to download whatsapp data that took effect on 25 May 2018. It allows you to request and export a report of your WhatsApp account settings and information, including your contacts, profile photos and group names.

After the recent change in WhatsApp privacy policy, users are more concerned about their data. So if you also want to know what data is collected by WhatsApp, the Facebook-owned company allows you to download and view your data. Dubbed as Request Account Information, this feature allows you to export a report of your WhatsApp data which includes your contacts, profile photos and groups. How To export WhatsApp Chats

To download your data report, make sure to update your app to the latest version. After that, follow the below-mentioned steps:

1] Go to WhatsApp Settings -> Account.

2] Here look for Request account info and tap on it.

3] Tap the Request report on the next page.

Your report will be available to download in about three days after the requested date. When it is available, you’ll receive a notification on your phone.

Download your data

1] Go to WhatsApp Settings -> Account and tap Request account info.

2] Here you will now see a new Download report button, tap on it and a ZIP file will be downloaded to your phone.

3] Once the file is downloaded, you can tap the Export report.

The report will be in a zip file which includes HTML file and JSON files which are easy to view. However, you cannot view reports within WhatsApp. So you will need an external app to export the reports. WhatsApp collects user information including phone number, connection IP, device type and manufacturer, profile picture, about, contacts and groups. It also collects Terms of Service data that shows when you have accepted WhatsApp’s Terms of Service. How to download the generated report

* Open WhatsApp and head over to the Settings panel.

* Inside of the Settings Panel, tap on the Account option.

* Once again tap on the Request account info option.

* Now you will see that your report has been generated.

* Tap on download the report button.

* A zip file with your report will be downloaded to your phone.

* Extract the report and check on what all data does WhatsApp have on you.

How to request your WhatsApp data report

To download your data report:

  • Go to WhatsApp Settings.
  • Go to Account.
  • Go to Request Account Info.
  • Tap Request report.
  • The screen will update to Request sent.

You are not able to see the downloaded report in WhatsApp itself. You must use an external app in your share tray to export reports. For example, you can email yourself a copy of the report. The report will be in a zip file that includes an HTML file that is easy to view.

  • Go to WhatsApp Settings.

  • A ZIP file will be downloaded to your phone.
  • Once the file is downloaded to your phone, select Export report.

When can you view your WhatsApp data report?

Your report will be available approximately three days after the requested date. You can mention the “ready” date while you wait. When the report is available, you will receive the following notification on your phone: Your account information The report is ready to be downloaded. The Request Account Info screen in the app will tell you how long it takes (only a few weeks) for you to download the report before it is deleted from WhatsApp’s servers.
